Behind the Scenes: Heartbreak Installation
The start of May was a busy period for RUYA MAPS as we worked to install Heartbreak at Ca’ Del Duca, which opened on 11th May.
In the months leading up to the exhibition, Roma Piotrowska, Assistant Curator, oversaw the logistics of transporting the artworks - many of them newly commissioned for the exhibition. Some works had never traveled before, such as Füsun Onur’s delicate sculptures which explore the fragility of the domestic sphere. From Istanbul to New York, Beirut to Rome, all of the works finished their journeys by boat down the Grand Canal.
Once the crates arrived at Ca’ Del Duca it was time to unpack and carry out condition reports before finally hanging the works. Led by Leo Quadrucci, our art technicians had already been preparing the seventeenth century palazzo as an exhibition space with newly painted walls, the installation of an overhead sound ‘shower’ and frames to dim light levels.
